[3] But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but dead, because of the woman which thou hast taken: for she is a man’s wife. [4] (Notwithstanding Abimelech had not yet come near her) And he said, Lord, wilt thou slay even the righteous nation? [5] Said not he unto me, She is my sister? yea, and she her self said, He is my brother: with an upright mind, and innocent hands have I done this. [6] And God said unto him by a dream, I know that thou diddest this even with an upright mind, and I kept thee also that thou shouldest not sin against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
Genesis 20:3-6 GNV
How quick we often are to get a false idea of people and nations around Abraham, because they weren't described as Abraham's descendants. In the most recent chapters we're told of Lot dwelling in Sodom. We gather a very low opinion regarding him, where he lived, why he lived there, hie sons-in-law mocked him, even his own daughters saw that getting pregnant by their own father was the way to keep his family line going, yet he is recorded at "righteous Lot".
Here a man, a leader of a non-Abrahamic line who innocently takes Sarah because she is beautiful and for all Abimelec knows she is Abraham's sister. When God appears to him in a dream this man knows God well enough to use the same defense that Abraham bargined with God about Sodom and Gomorrah, "will you slay a righteous nation?" And the man had a very deep sense of propriety because he was appalled to think he would possibly slept with another man's wife.
May we not be like the Scribes who could tell Herod where Christ would be born, but we're not told of even one who went to Bethlehem to learn why these Gentile men were asking. Nor like John, after so long (three years) have been with Jesus who told another man not to cast out demons in Jesus name because he wasn't from the known group of disciples (Mark 9:38, 39).
May we not stop the blessings because someone is not "one of us".
(I may be confused here, but because I wrote this it would seem that I am the “scribe”. Therefore if you would choose to “subscribe” would you therefore then be considered an underwriter?)
Thanks Richard
The Samaritans are also a case in point, Christ spent two days with them.
You could also include:
And I have other sheep who are not of this fold. I must also lead those, and they shall hear My voice, and there shall be one flock, one Shepherd.” (John 10:14-16)
