On Monday the last week of September I was offered the opportunity to begin working in a new role for a different company. That I accepted and turned in my resignation immediately where I was employed. Next week my new job was waiting. Eventually I could work from home from my computer over the Internet. Friday morning as the hurricane named Helene came from the Gulf of Mexico across Florida, Georgia, both South and North Carolina, into Tennessee power and Internet was lost for millions of people, those who were fortunate to have lost only that much as greater destruction is seen all around. Where I was to begin working also had neither power nor Internet, and wouldn't have for a couple of weeks. Needless to say like many others I had no work where I had been promised work. However earlier this year my youngest son who works for the same company started a new business in tree removal. Companies like that now will have work for years to come as people rebuild their lives and livelihoods. Because I had been promised work, part of the condition was that I may be used for other projects requiring versatility I received a call to begin working that second week, not in a building with power and the Internet, but as part of a tree removal team. My boss told me, "We promised work and just need to get you started, just need to do something now.”
In the past every time I started working for a different employer sometimes the job may have seemed monumental, but just had to have some place to start. Everything, simple tasks simply just must be started. A man I once was speaking with about renting a house said that even picking up just a piece of trash would make the place look better, so immediately I bent down and picked up a piece of trash. Shortly after that we shook hands and I was renting a different house. There is always a need just to start somewhere.
Many who love God say the Psalms is their favorite book of the Bible. Many verses even out of Psalm 119 are readily quoted like, "Thy word have I hid in my heart, thst I may not sin against thee. (v11, KJV). Like in my last post where sometimes all we see the massive number of verses and miss the individual verses, it seems maybe more often that when we do see specific verses here and there, memorize them even, they are like my promise of a job. There may be difficulties that may hinder getting started with what you think you should be doing, but you can get started one or another way. And it should be noted that one of the main benefits of working is for the reward, typically to pay for standard amenities for life. But you never receive any benefit if you don't get started.
Throughout Psalm 119 there are 176 verses and nearly everyone of them has direct references to the Word of God, some specific words used more than a couple dozen times each. But because of that to beyond that every verse of Psalm 119 is an action verse. From the verse earlier the action is to not sin against God. You can't just know the facts and figures, or just memorize and quote verses. We need to just get started, somewhere, anywhere.
Wherewith shall a young man redress his way? in taking heed thereto according to thy word.
Psalms 119:9 GNV
Yes. You must know the Word, even memorize and quote the verse, but there can be no result, no reward until action is taken as result of knowing God's Word, but greater from knowing God Himself which comes through His Word that testifies of Him. It is only that which makes it possible to know Him. Knowing Him makes it possible to act in the way He would act.
As I have known for many years there are many useful items I have collected for furure projects. Of these items there is knowledge I have stored away. There are books for reference I have stored away. There are machines, parts, tools that I have to accomplish various goals of those projects. But until the time comes when that knowledge, the references, the tools, etcetera are required they are just laid in store. Action is required to make use of the various combinations of what is available.
There are dozens of combinations within the verses of this Psalm alone. Some even speak of the reward.
The Law of thy mouth is better unto me, then thousands of gold and silver.
Psalms 119:72 GNV
Except thy Law had been my delight, I should now have perished in mine affliction.
Psalms 119:92 GNV
Oh how love I thy Law! it is my meditation continually. By thy commandments thou hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have had more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. I understood more then the ancient, because I kept thy precepts.
Psalms 119:97-100 GNV
There are immeasurable riches in knowing God through His Word. Delighting in God's Law sustains us in any of our afflictions, keeps us alive. The fear of the Lord through knowing His Word is the beginning of wisdom. It is that which transforms and renews our minds causing us to have more understanding than our teachers, even surpassing the understanding of the understanding of ancient men. Through it we can see our way on the dark paths of life. We know we can take action, continually move forward as much as we need to see to move forward.
Thy word is a lantern unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalms 119:105 GNV
Nearly every verse in Psalms 119 sees action that can be taken, must be taken, has been taken, or is enabled to be taken. But when it comes to reading each verse, acting on each verse the overwhelming thrust into action isn't doing them all at once, but rather know that any one of them can be a starting point, and after picking that starting action, it just needs to be done.
